The child in me
Nothing brings out the rushing flash of pure joy in the eyes of Erdoğan Altındiş like the touch and flight of a kite. How about you — what returns you to your inner child?
Awash with sweeping waves of nostalgia and dreamy throwbacks to childhood, SUPA — Manzara’s latest exhibition Özlem, or Longing, is inviting you to rediscover that child in you.
Flamboyant kites and heaps of yearning await you in the majestic ambience of Suriye Passage, one of the most iconic structures of İstiklal Street, to take you upon a journey back in time.
For artist-architect Altındiş, kites have been a means to relive his “longing” ever since he met it in Germany and embraced the rousing feeling as his comrade. “We grew up together in Germany,” says Altındiş, who wants to offer everyone to reach out to their childhood. He set off on his wishlist by making a kite for each unit of the Suriye Passage, many of who appear in the video to share their feelings. The video is a glimpse into the idea behind the deeply evocative exhibition and Altındiş’s many reasons to mount it.
The exhibition is on until December 16, 2018.
The door, of course, is open to everybody…
